My Video Shenanigans show is an hour of humorous musical performance with big-screen video. There’s even an ounce or two of audience participation thrown in for good measure.
The idea for this act came about when I used to be half of the highly-respected comedy double act ‘Goodie & Nick’. We had started using video for a couple of sections of our act in a couple of venues where they happened to have a projector, and noticed that those sections seemed to go down better than usual.
I thought you could have a really excellent, unusual and popular act if you could use big screens every night. We couldn’t afford the investment at the time, though, and the idea stayed in the back of my mind.
We ended the double act in 2009 as we lived too far apart to continue: Goodie went on to develop his own successful stand-up comedy act; and I started my own video editing business, and to do a few singing gigs to “keep my hand in”.
Ideas kept popping into my mind for the video screen act, though and in 2011 I decided to go for it – I researched into and bought a screen and a projector, put the music tracks together and spent a couple of evenings filming the “Other Me’s” in front of a green screen, and a lot of hours editing!
I didn’t have time to get the full show ready for my two remaining gigs of 2011, but what I did get ready went really really well, better than I’d hoped in fact, and now the act has been going strong for over 10 years!
